To orient the participants on the VITAL theme, modules for the sessions have been well designed and evolved through the field level experience, where it enables each participant to internalise values effectively and practice in the classroom teaching.

Module 1: Introduction to VITAL theme

  • Purpose of education is – an expansion from ‘me’ to ‘we’.
  • Understand the four pillars of education – Learning to know, Learning to do, Learning to live together and Learning to be
  • Interdependence and Interconnectedness with Mother Nature and Society and our life as a payback.
  • Uniqueness of Teacher’s profession

Module 2: Understanding & Internalizing Values

  • Emphasizing the importance of values enshrined in the Preamble of Constitution and Fundamental duties of citizen (Article 51A).
  • To sensitize on the importance of value education emphasized by various statutory boards:
    • Values identified and highlighted in the National Curriculum framework – NCF
    • Education for Peace – NCERT
  • Values cannot be taught but can only be kindled through reflective sharing (OASIS Process)

Module 3: Technique of Integrating Value examples in academics

  • This session is intended to learn the methodology of integrating values into text portions. Participants will be sufficiently motivated to bring out real-life examples that can be coalesced with their academic subjects.
  • Teaching includes weaving in value examples with the text portions to make education value based and life related.
  • Collective and individual learning on integration of values with the text portion with the help of VITAL Components.
  • Each participant will be given time to identify values in text portions and integrate them with value examples. (collective and individual learning)

Module 4: Initiating VITAL Approach in Teaching

  • This final session is aimed at practicing the learning of the previous sessions. They will demonstrate how they are going to implement the value-integration methodology in actual class rooms.
  • Secondly participants will be given adequate inputs for self-evaluation and to further strengthen their interests in identifying appropriate value examples from various sources like newspapers, internet etc.
  • Participants will be encouraged to share their experiences and feedback of the sessions.

Note:

  1. Resources like video clips, group activities (eg. Value Cards exercise), sharing of positive incidents etc. will be used to kindle and internalize the different facets of values.
  2. Care to be taken to avoid incidents/examples that are religiously or politically biased while quoting value examples
