VITAL is a transformational initiative that attempts to re-imagine (image) the educational system in general, and value education in particular. VITAL’s methodology can be best summarised as the ‘OASIS Process’, which consists of five steps.
- Observe: Look out for positive incidents, real life stories and anecdotes from one’s own life or other sources such as newspapers, magazines, electronic media, the Internet etc..
- Assemble: Gather these anecdotes that convey positive messages and inspiring insights.
- Select: Choose a particular textbook portion, read it thoroughly and search for appropriate values inherent in the text.
- Integrate: Connect an appropriate value-based example drawn from a real-life situation to the selected text content. Ensure that essence of the text is emphasized effectively in the given example.
- Share: Values cannot be taught; they need to be enkindled. Share the value-integrated text and example with students in a natural, spontaneous and joyous manner.
